Turmeric
One study in 2012 showed that curcumin in turmeric can prevent gingivitis, or gum disease. It helped remove plaque, bacteria, and inflammation comparably well with traditional mouthwashes, when used properly.
A study later in 2013 found even more benefits from turmeric for oral hygiene. Results showed it can relieve dental pain and possibly even be used as periodontitis treatment. It may also help prevent various oral cancers.
Some compare turmeric’s teeth whitening effects to baking soda or activated charcoal for teeth whitening.Turmeric provides oral healthcare benefits that other natural, or over-the-counter tooth whiteners, don’t have.
Ginger
Key Oral Health Benefits of Ginger
The oral health benefits of ginger are multifold. Ginger serves as a wonderful preventative method to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Also, it’s also a quick and easy treatment for many oral and dental issues.
Consuming ginger can help you…
- Remove plaque.
- Keep cavities away.
- Strengthen your gum tissue.
- Temporarily relieve toothaches and oral pain.
- Prevent inflammatory oral diseases.
- Reduce your risk of gingivitis and gum disease.
- Protect you from serious oral infections, diseases, and cancers.
Ginger Can Help Fight Against Gingivitis and Gum Disease
Now you know ginger can protect you from serious oral health issues.
But, how exactly does it do this?
Ginger contains multiple active ingredients that stimulate health and healing in your mouth. The most notable are Raffinose and Gingerol.
Active Ingredient #1: Raffinose for Plaque Defense
Raffinose, one of the key active ingredients in ginger, helps prevent bacterial buildup around your teeth and gums.
This robust ingredient found in ginger fights sugar formation around the teeth, therefore keeping biofilm from developing. A biofilm is a stubborn form of bacteria that sticks to surfaces. It is the primary cause of plaque accumulation and can ultimately lead to cavities and overall decay.
The ingredient, Raffinose, further:
- Relieves pain, swelling, and infections related to toothaches.
- Reduces biofilm and other bacterial accumulation on teeth and gums.
- Prevents inflammatory diseases like periodontal disease, which diminishes bone and tissue in your mouth.
And much, much more.
Active Ingredient #2: Gingerol for Fighting Infection
Gingerol is the main ingredient that gives ginger its spice.
Dandelion Greens
(Dandelion greens are a good source of calcium and vitamin K — both of which are associated with the prevention of bone loss .Calcium, phosphorous, vitamin D, vitamin E., Potassium, Magnesium, silicium, Iron, Manganese, Zinc, Copper and a relatively high amount of Choline (part of vitamin B)
Plantain and Echinacea
Nettle
trace minerals needed for restoring enamel.
Oregano (against sores in the mouth)
A study in 2008 discovered that one of the naturally occurring compounds found in Oregano had strong antimicrobial properties.
Sage (white teeth)
Sage has antimicrobial effects, which can neutralize microbes that promote dental plaque. In one study, a sage-based mouthwash was shown to effectively kill the Streptococcus mutans bacteria, which is notorious for causing dental
One review noted that sage may treat throat infections, dental abscesses, infected gums and mouth ulcers. (11).
- Vitamin K: 10% of the reference daily intake (RDI)
- Iron: 1.1% of the RDI
- Vitamin B6: 1.1% of the RDI
- Calcium: 1% of the RDI
- Manganese: 1% of the RDI
As you can see, a small amount of sage packs 10% of your daily vitamin K needs (2Trusted Source).
Sage also contains small amounts of magnesium, zinc, copper , Bèta Carotene and vitamins, C and E.
Peppermint leaf (presence of potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron and phosphorus in mint leaves is essential for maintenance and formation of bone-density in tooth and jaw. The vitamins and minerals work together to fortify enamel and ensure strengthening teeth and gums. It acts as an alkaline food that contradicts the effects of the acidic environment that is responsible for gum diseases and tooth decay.)
Parsley (vitamin K, Since parsley is naturally antibacterial, it is excellent for your oral health. Along with brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once a day, chewing parsley could help eliminate harmful bacteria in your mouth that can cause gum disease and tooth decay.)
Grind this to a powder, then mix into a paste with a table spoon of sesame oil and hemp oil mixed with two tablespoons of non deodorized organic coconut oil, and you have a wonderful toothpaste. When it is very cold, add some sesame seed oil to keep it soft and easily applicable.
The main type of fat in coconut oil is lauric acid, which is a 12 carbon (C12) medium-chain triglyceride (MCT), and makes up around half of coconut oil. It also contains small amounts of palmitic (C16) and myristic (C14) acid (1Trusted Source).
Interestingly, the fatty acids in coconut oil have been associated with having antibacterial properties, which may benefit your oral health. In particular, lauric acid and monolaurin (a monoglyceride form of lauric acid) are associated with having antimicrobial properties
Sesame oil may not be something you’ve considered as part of your dental care regimen, but it’s an excellent tool to neutralize acid and boost dental health. Sesame seeds are thought to reduce plaque and help remineralize tooth enamel. They are also rich in linoleic acid.
Olive oil. Fights inflammation.
Be sure to use cold pressed, organic sesame oil, otherwise it has no power.
For a an excellent oral care routine, start with using a toothpick, then rinse your mouth, preferably with a water pick, and floss with a neutral floss with no additives between each teeth, cleaning the floss after every time before you go to the next pair of teeth. Then use the water pick again to rinse your mouth and teeth. Then use the toothpaste, and of you like you can add tumeric for extra white teeth three times a week, like Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Brush for two minutes, cleaning all six tooth areas (above front, top and back and below front top and back, and using any extra time on the hind teeth).
And my latest addition: Raw cacao. I already knew that it was rich in minerals that re beneficial for bones, but then I also read it was amazing for teeth. I tried putting some in the oil and herbs toothpaste, and the effect was amazing.
Then without rinsing, either add a sip of mouthwash, made from:
-one teaspoon of diatomaceous earth: (3 percent magnesium, 5 percent sodium, 2 percent iron, 19 percent calcium and 33 percent silicon, along with several other trace minerals.)
-one teaspoon of healing earth
-a table spoon of Himalayan salt
-a capsule of activated charcoal
-a capsule of echicea powder
add 500 ml of water
-then add sesame oil
-the omega three oil mix described earlier or hemp oil
-a teaspoon of curcumin
-a teaspoon of black pepper
-a table spoon of olive oil
Take a sip and add a teaspoon of organic extra virgin coconut oil .
Or just use either olive oil if you have a tooth ache or inflammation or coconut oil if you just need to keep your teeth healthy, and use that to oil pull for between 10 to 20 minutes.
Slush in your mouth for the time it takes to get dressed in the morning or into your night clothes before bedtime.
Spit out in a jar which you can then empty in the compost bin in the garden in the morning, since the amylase is very good for the earth.
Make sure not swallow it, since that can cause calcium toxicity, which can lead to cardiac arrhythmia and arteriosclerosis!
Then rinse your mouth and teeth thoroughly with a water pick, making sure none of the minerals remain in the mouth, since that is too abrasive.
In spite of what some dentists say, brushing your teeth after eating is fine. It’s not the enamel that gets brushed off, but the layer of calcium covering the enamel, and there is nothing wrong with that being replaced regularly, otherwise teeth become very yellow. Also using a toothpick to take away food between teeth is as important as brushing. For more information on teeth, see Research for Oil &Herbs Teeth Nourishing Toxin free toothpaste For teething children, chewing on a toothbrush can bring relief. And start brushing even before the first tooth comes through.
